My Faith Story (part 1)

Some people will challenge you.

I was having lunch earlier this year with Steve Robinson, a new friend who was head of FCA in the Nashville area for 40 years or so, and he asked me to share with him my Faith Story. I did. Then he asked me if I had shared it with my grandchildren. I told him I had not. “Why not?” Steve asked. “You should.”

I told him that I had shared it when speaking years ago, and that I was working to write it down in a more formal fashion. (I have now done that. I have shared the written story with my daughters, my oldest granddaughter and with Diane… who already knew the details.)

As I thought about Steve’s challenge , it occurred to me that, although I was raised by a Christian mother and grandparents, I did not know the details of their faith journeys and I deeply wished that I had heard them.

The story of how my Nanny…totally blind from age 12…made the decision to give her life to Jesus Christ and developed an unshakable faith based life and marriage must be a remarkable one. But sadly, I do not know it. I know her life’s witness because I lived with it. But I do not know what events resulted in her choosing Christ.

What about you? I’m guessing that there was one; maybe there were multiple people who were meaningful examples that impacted your life toward Christ. Do you know how their journeys began? Wouldn’t that be great to know?

So, my challenge to you is to write out your own Faith Story … if you have not…and to share it with those close to you. You don’t need to worry about the impact…God will take care of that.

In fact, I would love to know your story. I promise to keep it 100% confidential unless you instruct otherwise. You can email to me at:

skip@sourcingdept.com

I would be deeply honored to hear from you.

My story is a bit long…but I guess the most important stories of one’s life tend to be.  So…I’m saving it for another time, waiting a few days or so…just to give you time to formulate your own.

If you do consider starting to write your story, or if you’re thinking of putting it off, I only ask you what Steve Robinson asked me… “Why not?” Pray about it. I did.

Look for My Faith Story soon…I would love it if you choose to share yours with me, but I understand if you don’t.
