Perkins Cove, ME … A few days celebrating Diane’s Birthday

247 steps from the front door of our rental cottage to the Marginal Way…the path that winds along the coastline from Perkins Cove into Ogunquit. Just finished three days of dawn walks to rocks there; rocks that make exceptional seating for coffee and morning devotionals.

The sunrises were pretty, but the lack of clouds rendered the colors less than amazing. However, a sensational ambiance was created by a surprisingly spectacular stillness. During the day and early evening, Perkins Cove is a hubbub of locals working, tourists shopping and looking, sailors sailing, lobstermen running about doing lobstermen chores, and the Harbormaster overseeing it all. But at sunrise, only the waves, crashing against the rocks on the east side of the peninsula that creates Perkins Cove, break through the solid serenity.

Water surface in the cove was almost mirror-like, giving no hint to the constant churning that would come from the boat traffic in a very short time.

Although it was our third visit here, I lingered at the ocean side, and then the cove side, burning into my memory images of this beautiful peaceful site which I likely will never see again.

Special places make morning devotionals extra meaningful…or do meaningful devotionals make unique places more special?
